on the elections in our Faculty

Today, October 17, 2009 is a sad day for the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences UNPSJB.

As we know, was to take place the third session of the Board to elect the dean and the dean. On this occasion, after two sessions, a simple majority was enough to win a nomination.

What is perhaps not so well known is that the vote of the directors is secret, something that, if it serves to protect the freedom of the representative-voter may also be useful to circumvent the relationship of trust between the agent and the represented.

After 9 election September, the absence of any list which enjoyed its own majority, won the dialogue to agree on projects and applications, something that normally happens in polling systems, such as the UNPSJB. In this process of discussion, the different groups defined affinities, adjusted proposals and agreed on strategies, which was a regrouping of political actors. Thus, when he began the first session of this council, on Thursday 15, there were two distinct sectors: one, consisting of lists Integration and Patagonia, Comodoro, promoted the candidacy Coicaud Claudia Dean, the other consisting of lists New Space Patagonia, Trelew, FUICH-UETDF and La Marea + UFE and based on a proposal to work in common to create change within our power, promoted the candidacy of Luis Sandoval. The first sector initially had 5 representatives, voters, and the second with 7.

The picture was very predictable and the election process should proceed smoothly, beyond what the final outcome. However, while waiting for the start of this third meeting, the election climate began to "rarefied." Other aspects of the situation, we saw a group composed of students and teachers presumably by the Department of Political Science with Fabrizio Felicetti (director of municipal government security Comodoro Rivadavia), surrounded at all times to a student counselor, perhaps to induce a directed way to vote, by pressure, separating at all times of their group mates.

Given this apparent lack of minimum guarantees for a reasoned and serious debate, and the free exercise of election of each director, representatives of the undersigned groups, which coincide in the diagnosis of the situation, as well as a School project to come and change this state of affairs, decided to leave the meeting. The aim of this decision is that of making a call for sanity prime and respect, and to ensure a democratic framework serious and mature discussion, free from pressures, so we can decide what paths to follow, people and projects to be Faculty conduct the necessary consensus-building and institutional policies.

Who concocted this crude maneuver are the same as outrageous lies circulated, we will not repeat, but we are compelled to refute.

1. On the relationship between students and teachers. The project will integrate political and academic co-government understood as a relationship of respect and equality among people who occupy institutional roles different (students, not teachers, assistants, teachers or graduate) but enjoy autonomy and freedom, maturity and responsibility. Perhaps others pretend that the relationship between teachers and students is a relationship of obedience and submission and well built (or trying to) their relationship both in the classroom and in other areas of participation, but we consider this relationship as an egalitarian practice, where there are differences and similarities, from which it is possible to build common goals and proposals. Those who understand that the equal relationship between teachers and students is necessarily disadvantageous for the latter's dignity remains underestimate them (such time in an effort to retain "faculty privileges"), also showing a profound ignorance of the real capacity of our students.

2. On the meaning of the relationship of representation. Against this we understand that, in the tradition of our representative institutions, the representative has the autonomy to define their preferences, but that autonomy is not equivalent to a buoyancy asocial devoid of any relationship. We are convinced that the decisions of the representative must be a consequence of his convictions but also formed in dialogue with their constituencies. Advocates of indifference and insensitivity of the representative, the lack of any relationship with represented, can only be encouraging corrupt and decadent. We have noted with great concern that this conflict was used to feed false ghosts and put into play stigma towards those who think differently. We know that this is no accident: the fear is one of the weapons of choice for those in positions entrench reactionary or simply conservative. On the other hand, the sad logic of lying for something is, is always the initial condition of legitimacy that starts any kind of persecution and harassment.
